Guy, parking on the shoulder is NOT a thing, ESPECIALLY with WE's sitting duck policy.
The regs (and WE policy) allow the use of PC to seek safe haven; find yourself an actual spot, or failing that a dirt lot. TL;DR, get off the side of the road

The good news is once you've figured out the current HOS, it all changes in September I think!

Just so you know for next time. This is what I would do if waiting long time to load or unload. If your not needed on the dock you can log 30 minutes to load or unload or longer if you want. Then you go into sleeper till loaded or unloaded. Then back back On-duty to sign paperwork and stuff. If you then out of hours and can't drive and no overnight parking. You can use PC to first safe place to park. If you could get 8 hours in sleeper it could extend your 14 hour clock. That probably won't happen very much. You don't really need to even do that, because it's legal to use PC if you run out of hours loading or unloading and no overnight parking is available.

That said, for the op as I didn't notice it specifically stated...
You have several clocks to keep track of.
14 hour window is just that, a window. The window closes 14 hours after coming on duty. There are ways to extend it, but until you get the basics down don't try. You'll just get in trouble.
11 hour clock. Can't drive more than 11 hours.
8 hour clock. Gotta take a 30 minute break before the 8 hour mark.
10 hour clock. Gotta have a 10 hour break before a new 14 is available.
34 hour click. 34 hours off duty/sleeper will reset your 70 hour clock. This is 100% optional.
70 hour clock. Cannot work more than 70 hours in an 8 day period.
Yes there are ways to extend the hours, but stick to the basics until you get them down. Also every hos reg is about limiting drive time. You can work after and clock runs out, you just can't drive until the proper rest is done.Truckermania, faux_maestro, tarmadilo and 6 others Thank this. -
Do this:
Tomorrow, when you log a pre trip, set the alarm on your smart phone for 13 hours. If you pre trip at 0600, 13 hours would put you at 1900. Alarm goes off, you should be looking for a place to park. You will have an hour to find a parking place. Keep this routine up until you master the finer points of trip planning.Shanebklyn, faux_maestro, beastr123 and 12 others Thank this. -

If you do find that you run out of time before findimg paeking it is better to just stay on the drive line to the first available parking, as this is only a violation of the 11 or 14 clock and is not an automatic OOS violation.
Any incorrect use of PC is considered a falsification of logs violation and is an automatic OOS.faux_maestro, Coffey, rachi and 4 others Thank this. -
If you believe otherwise, provide a link to the regs / guidance. Not some option piece by a 3rd party, but something from FMCSALast edited: Jun 30, 2020

Before you pull out of anyplace - click on the summary tab of your eld and see what it thinks you have on each of the 4 clocks. Besides making sure you aren't surprised, it can help you catch any errors.
Like it or not, we live and die by our clocks. You manage them or they will make your life hell.roshea, farmerjohn64 and Coffey Thank this.
