    The next time you see that commercial, listen closely. The comparison is for "one ton of freight on a gallon of fuel".. What they fail to mention is that they are hauling a hell of alot more than just one ton.

    Yeah anywhere from 80 to 120 ton per car. 100 to 150 car trains... He77 a empty boxcar weighs between 70,000 and 100,000lbs.. depending on how old it is. We have a few 100k lb'ers in our yard thats from the 50's.
