1. Attention employers: We now require a valid DOT# for anyone wishing to post a driving position. If your job offer doesn't contain a DOT number, it will not get past moderation and will not appear in the forum. The other requirements in the sticky at the top of this section are still required as well. Thank you for understanding.

There is a local staffing company in Columbia TN that advertised this week for PT OTR or local drivers. Team fill in drivers too.

They are hiring for MTC (Martin Transfer) out of MI not Mondovi WI. MTC has a terminal down by the GM plant off Saturn Pkwy in Spring Hill, they haul parts from the Penski logistics warehouse to the GM plant and pick up parts for the production all over middle TN. They require 3 years exp. and a spotless DMV. They will also dispatch a repower to Detroit, to pick up GM parts. Its seems people come and go often, I guess it gets boring driving 3 miles up the road to the plant and back to the distribution warehouse several times a day.

Well, don't put the bait out there and not give us the fish. :biggrin_25511: Why did you tell us about it, but can't tell us who the company is? Are they a "company", or just have a couple of trucks to run? Since we're the ones going over the scales, it's nice to know how legitimate they are. Thank you, and have a good week.

One trailer truck. They aren't a trucking company. They are legit until they get caught not taking out taxes. Daughter called me asked if they had called me to run yet.

I'll take anything as I need to pay bills for the next 4 months before I will get on with a real trucking job. I went to orientation today for school at Nashville Tech. It starts mid October and I won't graduate until December.

i smell something foul here and its not the proverbial fish smell. Do not walk, RUN AWAY NOW, if they are going to pay you cash, no taxes taken out and isn't a "legit" company, everyone involved might get hammered by the U.S. D.O.T. and the IRS.

Bigger concern would be workmans compensation, should the driver be hurt on the job. :biggrin_2556:

Why would the DOT care how or even if you get paid?

Reporting your income is ultimately your responsibility. I worked for a company where the boss claimed he was paying the taxes etc. on the check. When he went out of business guess what? I had to pay it all! SS (both parts mine and the employers) And FICA.

Anyways who gives a F+++ if it is legal to pay me in cash?

    1. Did I keep my electric and phone on?

    2. Did I pay my mortgage?

    3. Got food and car insurance?

One thing I won't do and that is run illegal. In the mean time when I get my class A in December and this is all I can find? You bet your butt I am going to do it 'til a real job comes along! 3-6 months and more opportunities open up.

You're right it doesn't smell right. My last trailer truckin job I was 1099'ed. Illegal for them to do that too! I hauled jet A, and AVgas. They got away with it. They probably still are.

The key is report the income.

Yep. They would flunk the 20 question test for self employment. If they set the rate, they own the truck, tell you when to be working etc. I am an employee.

I would file a W/C claim if injured. Let the lawyers go at it. W/C is getting tighter here in TN as of 1/1/10.

I worked for a carpet store in Nashville. I had my ow W/C. Other guys they took it out on. We were told as the contractor we weren't covered. One guy injured himself and that store had been taking out W/C on him. He worked alone. They paid.

Survival people, that is what is going on. I have no unemployment coming in. Hard to get a part time job. Men with masters degrees are working at Lowes for $10 an hour.

In a couple of weeks I am going to be doing school for my CDL. M-F 6:45-2:30PM.
