Where are the best places to get truck service while on the road? I drive a Freightliner; should I get service at the authorized Freightliner shops, or can I use the Loves and others? Thanks.

Dealerships are not usually an in and out. TA Petro and Loves all do truck service. Best to call ahead, when you get close and find out what the wait time is for a PMfarmerjohn64 Thanks this.

This is a question better suited for the Owner-Operator forum. If you are not an OO then this is a decision your company will make. Most carriers have national service contracts. My last carrier used TA/Petros for this service.

Sometimes you don't have a choice if youbreakdown out there. I would also recommend if you have a Cat engine that needs work you go to a Cat shop. Instead of freightliner or T/A

If my memory is right I had such a problem while going through Alabama headed from Atlanta to Memphis. My tractor had a Detroit engine in it. Although it was a new Freightshaker the company directed me to the Detroit shop. Most of the time if a tractor is still under warranty this is what they want. I have seen tractors took to an OEM dealer for service only to have the tractor towed to either Cat or Detriot.

The difference between a good mechanic and a not so good can be explained in this example.
A chain oil and grease facility, rounded all 4 bolts on a u joint. Another truck serviced at a similar facility doesn't check u joints for wear or one being loose.A good shop may charge more but they will find things like that.
