Most if not all our trailers have that white rectangular light or a smaller circular white light on the front drivers side of the trailer. Usually placed inboard enough for you not to be able to see it unless you are turning.... If the light is on then there is air being supplied to the trailer. If excess air goes back there....then excess air is going away... somewhere.
Some axles have auto fill. Some auto fill lines have a fitting for each tire in it's supply line so you can measure the pressure like a normal tire stem fitting. Some ghetto trailers have only a couple lol. Or none. Welcome to Western. If you have the auto fill... check the brass knurled connection at the hub. Just checked finger tight. If it's loose you'll lose air there. Doesn't have to be cranked down. If you ever need to deflate a tire, say to dislodge a huge chunk of concrete wedged between the tires, this is a good place to let out air.SoulScream84 and D.Tibbitt Thank this. -
When I leave out in the morning I try to do a slow wiggle thing. Now don't laugh and no remarks guys....
If you turn just a little bit to the driver side and roll 2mph you can watch for the white air light, you can watch a full rotation of both tires on axle 4 and the outer tire on axle 5. So if you lost a whole strip of tread but it was down on the bottom when you pretripped you can catch it on the roll out.
The turn a similar amount to the passenger side and watch those tires roll.
Also in the frozen season it verifies that you are turning on all 4 hubs.SoulScream84 and kemosabi49 Thank this. -

This morning daylight shows I've got 1 hub with a fitting to check the outer tire, but no fitting for the inner tire. -
And a easier view of 2 gauge fittings, and 2 air line connect fittings that IMO you should give a quick check when you get a new trailer. I picked up a preload from Aliquippa PA that had 1 of these loose. By the time I was in Hebron oh an outer tire was flipping around on the rim. TA managed to screw everything up including the rim but I was sent on my way 5 hours later. They suggested that I had rolled the tire off on a curb. And Aliquippa has those rotten curbs and I left at 3am...so it was plausible.
Next morning I see it's fubar... again. I drove it like that. Probably stupid but I was almost able to make the appointment in St Louis so I ran it like that and went to a local tire shop after I delivered.
The TA never checked the air supply to the tire. That brass fitting was loose and it slowly lost air until it unbeaded itself.
Rolling detached from the rim for 200 miles destroys the structural integrity of the tire.
So...2 tires, 1 rim, 7 hours, risk of DOT displeasure....
I check that fitting now. -
