Why does Gary,IN have such a bad reputation

Truckers love to make up/ exaggerate stories to make them seem more interesting.

 

Garry Indiana is a beautiful, low crime area. I stayed there a few times at the TA locked and loaded in the sleeper. Another nice place is west Memphis.

 

I don't guess you have been to the Gary Indiana truck stops?

 

Gary has a crime index of 7 with 100 being the safest...

I'd say that's pretty bad.

Any truck stop that has armed security is a red flag, and the truckstops are not in Gary "proper ", but out on the edges. That said there is a BIG difference between how safe I feel at the ta off of exit 6 and the petrol at exit 9. 3 miles makes a huge impact.

 

I guess you gonna have to ask god about that whenever you meet him boss.

 

Because gary is a #### hole . Get out of the truck stops and down in some of those industrial districts and report back how it makes ya feel. Im not one to get scared by much . But there is parts of gary that has made me nervous . West memphis is the gary of the south. Then u got compton and watts out west . But even compton and watts dont compare to gary or south chicago in my opinion.

 

When you at the truck stops you in the good part of town. Drive around Gary IN and it usually goes downhill from their. Needing security guards at truck stop is usually a sign it not the best neighborhood. Go to someplace like Jubitz truck stop in Portland Oregon with a movie theater and you will see a big difference.

 

I agree. The I65 get on ramp from 15th Ave was closed for construction for a while. We had to go through a couple of neighborhoods to get back to 65. It was a little nerve wracking. Groups of people out wandering at 230am.
