Completing gas loads quickly

Yeah I agree with fuel drivers getting paid hourly. Actually I think all company drivers should be paid hourly to some extent. Only prob with hourly at least here in DFW is most only wanna pay 18-20.00$ and hire enough drivers to avoid paying bunch of OT.
IMO no way a fuel hauler should make less than 75k yr working a 5 day shift. Too much responsibility and hazard

 

These bother me...

As has already been stated, learn to do it right, do it with forethought and attention, do it the same every time and do it smooth. Don't worry about doing it fast.

I've hauled gas (and worse) and I've owned a small fleet. If even a hint of "how do I do it as quickly as possible" came up in the hiring process... no hire. And as far as "goofing off at a station reading the paper talking on phone etc" goes, while it would increase the time to complete a load, it would give you unlimited time to look for a new job.

Actually 3 of the four times were in rural upstate NY, because the DEC cops are the same guys out looking for poachers!

 

Best way to save time hauling fuel is jumping the tracks. Saves on brakes and blinker fluid too.

 

I would look at it as being more efficient instead of trying to be faster. In stations how you pull in and position the truck can save you effort and time. Learn the stations too. Some stations have 87 tanks that share vapor. Meaning you only have to coax one. And always get you big compartments done first
