That is odd. They told us in orientation not to use the auto that we would get better fuel mileage.. I figure if they don't want you to use something why do they order it and put it on the truck?.

Maverick goes thru cycles. They will tell one class one thing and change the policy a few classes down the road. Even on securements. Slinkies is one of the things that they had changed when I was there.
sarge26044 Thanks this. -
He should get the hang of it, the one thing I hear a lot about Maverick is, do it the Maverick way. The drivers at my comany will take older tarps and cut them down so that there is no over hang when hauling coils. I have yet to do this but plan on it, when he looks at these guys tarping tell him to ask these guys for tips.

I've always ran 35 going up that way, used to go up that way alot back in my glass hauling days...its better now than it was then.
There are plenty of deer down through there and it gets pretty foggy sometimes at night because its so close to the river...buts its the best route I know of.
Nitro...
I have a list of truckstops (mostly Pilots) that I'm never going to be in again, and Nitro is #1 on that list. RC could have gotten fuel at the Pilot in Circleville, OH if he had came down that way...the next fuel stop after that is the TA in Wytheville, VA.
I have tried...and I just cant get used to manually shifting this thing. The shifter is too far up on the steering column for me...its at about 2:00...it needs to be at about the 3:30 position IMO.
Manually shifting it feels as "foreign" to me as writing with my left hand. If Maverick wants me to shift manually...they gonna have to give me a manual transmission. I don't mean that in any kind of smug way...thats just the way it is.
RedCoats Wife...if RC wants or needs any help with routing, I'd be happy to help him...I could give him my phone # and help him out till he gets the hang of it. -
Notarps...were you by any chance heading west on I40 in Tennessee this morning? I saw a truck that looked a lot like yours...flatbed hauling something in some sort of plastic bags.

I run that way dedicated a lot. I usually run 75 south off of US 33 and pick up US 35 in Dayton. Its 65mph and avoids all the Columbus traffic and the stop lights on US23. Also they have opened some of the bypass up and you no longer have to take WV-34. US 35 hits I 64 at exit 40. -
23 ain't too bad through Columbus but yes, that makes sense. I still take WV-34 because its usually about time to stretch my legs and drain my kidneys when I get there...stop at the TA there in Hurricane and take a few minutes.Last edited: Sep 22, 2009

I don't know anything about Maverick but the constant advertising has me concerned. I get that they need qualified drivers. Is their business growing so fast that they can't keep up with demand? If so, my hat is off to their sales dept. Growing in this economy is very hard right now.

I don't know much about why they are advertising, but I will say that freight has picked up quite a bit from what I have heard. I've only seen the past month, but I know it's picked up in just the past month as well. Also from talking to consignees, they are low on steel and everything else, so my best guess to answer this question is that yeah, it is growing, at least I would believe that it is. Don't take my word for that, though. Watch all the trucks on the highway. See more and more of them every day?

Thanks for the reply.
