I currently have my cdl a for > 26000 and combination vehicle. If I wanted to buy a medium duty truck without airbrakes and use a fifth wheel trailer, would I need to have more restrictions removed?
Do i need a cdl?

you do not want to "remove" something off your current CDL-A, unless you had an automatic restriction, and then you'd need a road test in a manual trans truck. so that you can then drive manual trans trucks.artvandalay Thanks this. -
You have a CDL A for less than 26,001 lbs.?
How is that even possible. My understanding of class A is combination greater than 26,001lb, while towing a trailer over 10,001lbs..

I've been out of school for awhile, but I was always taught ">" was greater than. If I'm wrong Ill delete my account and never post here again.

The " greater than and less than" symbols point in opposite directions. If the pointed end is facing the #, it is less than. If the open end is pointed at the #, it is greater than.
Of course the symbol should always be in front of the # or value. So , > in front of, or to the left of # is lesser than. <, would be greater than. Most folks get this wrong. -
I’m sooooo confused. The OP was right though

If you have a class A, keep it. Just because its not required, doesnt mean you cant have it. In other words, just because your between jobs for example, doesnt mean you have to give up a class A to drive a car. With any class licence, you can drive anything UP TO & including that class vehicle.
So, keep the class A & drive the smaller truck. Then if you ever want to go back to a class A, you dont have to change anything or go re-test etc to get your class A back.kemosabi49 and Truckermania Thank this.
