You have to give the little rattle traps their due though. If there ever was a little engine that could, that was it.

So the ones who drive 35 or try to get up to high gear in a parking lot just to use the jakes, are they steering wheel holders or super truckers?

Well, congratulations then. You're officially a steering wheel holder by your own definition.

When I went to school, the first time I went out on the truck with the instructor he had us drive around a small parking lot just basically feeling out shifting the gears. I was the last of the two other students on the truck to get to Drive. After I got done driving around the parking lot a few times he told me to head back to the class which was like 10 miles away. I was kind of freaked out. As I got out on the open freeway and was all smiling, he said to me, “what you’re doing right now is the easiest part of truck driving. Driving down the open highway“. That’s what a steering wheel holder can give you. They can drive down the open highway holding the steering wheel. But they’re usually going to be lousy or downright crappy at all the other aspects of things that make up truck driving.

on the other side of the coin it’s the guys with loud exhausts and stereos who drive into an apt complex full blast at 3 in the morning.
