You shouldn't use much. All the online play does is transfer packets of information basically telling the other computers where you are and telling yours where the other players are. The computer then draws it as it is seeing the info. Nothing like the data used for video streaming.

Monitor the usage. I watch my plan closely and keep track of how much data I use to stream a movie or listen to a particular show. I have it worked out that I can listen to so much a day and know about how close I'm to going over. Similar to keepin track of your fuel mileage. As long as you monitor it you shouldn't have any surprises at the end of your billing cycle.

There are a number of internet usage monitor apps you can put on your PC that will fairly accurately monitor your data usage, up and down. You can reset the counter, run a session or 2 (and NO other internet usage) then look at the numbers to gauge your real usage (in-game) and can extrapolate the data from there to make a determination.
The information provided by your cellular provider is pretty much useless (and not real-time current) in trying to determine session/application usage. Be sure you have auto-updates turned off on a windows machine and uninstall or disable all other software that regularly looks for updates (print drivers, graphics card software, other software) these "checks" can sometimes easily eat 20 megs, never mind actually downloading the updates.
Verizon does a pretty good job of letting you know via text message when you are on the verge of pushing your current data limits over your allowance.

It’s likely not the transfer rate that will be an issue. The problem with wireless LTE connections for gaming tend to be the latency, or slow ping. You really need to try it to see how well your provider will do. It will also likely be better in some areas than others.
