If it didn't make sense I'll clarify: you can get hired as a maintenance for hotel or some small company cleaning and painting, whatever, for $300-400 a week, or you can get your license, find a job even if it pays $500 a week, suck it up wait and gain experience. and it has future. and what's the future with being maintenance? exactly no future cause its a side job. you won't advance much. and with trucking once you have two years doors are open + economy will get better by that time. Thank you for the good lucks I ask my community around the city, even today i stopped at a trucking company and a Fedex pulled over and he was a Russian, took my #, said will give it to his friend business owner. mechanic shop has two truck drivers which i'll talk to. my sister friend's husband is a truck driver and said will put me in a team to gain experience. Then two more companies that know I don't have experience said come in. I agree with you it's hard to find a job but it's hard in every other job search! With your truck driving career, good luck also.

Newspaper?? What is that?? Who even advertises in those things anymore??

There seems to be plenty of work out there from what I been digging up on the I-net. Granted the CPM does suck on a bunch of them. BUT worse comes to worse it puts money in the bank to live.

I'm currently doing my research to see if Trucking is for me and it appears to be like every other place/industry I have worked. Has it's ups and downs, good places, and bad.

But for the most part it is what you make of it.

I think "I'm sure glad they're goin' the other way!" Unless they're in front of me; then I think that I'd better get around 'em a.s.a.p.! :biggrin_2559:

New drivers= maybe 5-6 hundred net, if you are REALLY lucky, per week. Deduct your expenses on the road....That maintence man makes more than you !! And he probaly has a better chance for advancement, also.

I'd say it's up to him to make what he will out of it.
There are plenty of us that never had a trainer.

Agreed had 3 trainers and took what I learned from each of them and made myself into what I am as a driver. 10 years no accidents and on time delivery unless the new hos gets in my way. And I was also a trainer but not until I had enough time on the road to be a trainer. I was not one of those well you had 6months you can be a trainer types. I was out 2 years before I trained

i was driving one of those trucks a little over a year ago. Just finished my first full year on my own as a company driver. I did ok, considering the economy. I drove 119000 miles, not the best, but better than others I've talked to.

Just how far can you advance as a driver? All I want is a raise every year. That is the only advancement I need.
