Are you talking about 2290, heavy use tax.? Or is it highway use tax.?
If so I don't know, never had it..

I did get a credit from IRP when I got ol Buck. I had 8 months left on the tag for my 36,000 dodge. I tagged for 50,000 the first year & it only cost about $200 extra if I remember right..

The way I remember it being explained when I bought my first truck is that the highway use tax stays with the truck. However, if you dont include the stamped receipt for it, the new owner must pay it again before they can put plates on the truck.

The one exception is if you buy a truck, pay the tax and the truck is either returned, destroyed, or stolen... then you can write it up and ask the IRS to credit your payment towards the hut on the replacement you purchase.
