Working at YRC as a student driver?

You'll make good money with YRC. I've averaged 65k every year after the first. Learn what you get paid for and check your paystubs to ensure there are no missing runs. I've never found any missing, but a few drivers I know have.

I like as much time off as possible. I probably could make 75 to 80k...but I enjoy my time off.

One trick, as extra board, is call in before you get to the terminal and let them know how much time you have to drive. Many times they'll find more work for you.

Pay is .59 per mile and 23.76 an hour. Garage, drop and hook, building sets, break down...is all paid for time.

After 14 hours in a hotel is paid for time with a meal ticket after 17 hours. You'll learn...ask questions.

 

Your usually home at least a couple times a week..sometimes more..sometimes less. Tell them you want to 'run'. Many time they'll keep you out...sometimes not. Depends what they need...you're extra board, get used to it. Lol!!

 

Heck, if you need fuel before you leave, even that is paid for time as well as flipping placards if you have hazmat.

You need all endorsements, doubles, triples, tanker, hazmat..all of them. Not experience, just the endorsements.

Chicago is usually hiring. They were running a CDL class in Hammond a couple of years ago; not sure if they still are. ABF. right next door to YRC's Chicago terminal almost always has a hiring sign out front..not sure how often they're hiring.

Best I can tell you is apply online and see what pops for you.

I know some out of Akron have 14 plus years and can't hold a bid. Then there's always the flip side where drivers in Cleveland land one in (I've been told) 2 to 3 years.
