If you are talking about on the slack adjuster, it’s the locking pin that you can pull back to back off the brakes.
Use a thin bladed tool to pry the pin back and then back the brakes off.
No need to unscrew the whole thing. -
Okay... it’s loose, how do you get it back tight
-
It’s a spring loaded plunger it doesn’t tighten up. It pulls straight out. The adjustment is on top,it should be 5/16.
-
Get what back tight?
-
The nut on the locking pin..there’s a gap between that nut and the back of the slack adjuster and I can twist it with my fingers. The other 3 aren’t like that
-
Unless the threads are stripped it should tighten right back up.
Rideandrepair Thanks this. -
10-4....thanks yeah I’ve never had self adjusting slack adjusters. Those are new to me
Rideandrepair Thanks this. -
When you adjust them, the adjuster will only go one way, the little button will pop in and out, while tightening the adjuster, till brakes are tight. Then you pry the little button out, unlocking the adjuster, to back them off. When finished, a tiny back and forth of the adjuster nut, will show the buttons seated in good. Pretty simple to figure out, once you’ve done it.
