That seems pretty fair, won’t get yourself killed if you’re actually paying attention; when I was in truck driving school there was this one woman a few blocks down who went under a truck drivers trailer who was pulling out of the Coca Cola place and she was killed, hence my question

You can bet that driver’s logs for the past week were audited with a fine tooth comb by a slip-and-fall lawyer to make sure he was legal to be there.

See, you're already 10 steps ahead, and didn't even know it.

A lot of people, when they realize they've screwed up, try to get out however they can, without any embarrassment or having to tell anyone. Sometimes, catastrophe results, like the swift truck running over the gas pumps causing a huge fire.

So instead of making a relatively minor mistake a career ender, just stop. Stop moving, start thinking, call for help if you need it. Sure, some super trucker might make fun, who cares?

We've all made mistakes, stopping and thinking a way out of the problem, is how a professional corrects it.

The “slip and fall lawyer” sums up what I really think about that; imo there shouldn’t be any guidelines from the FMCSA, only truck drivers making their best judgement calls such as not driving if they’re tired, sick, etc and simply getting the load to its destination as fast as they can running off of their own steam instead of some broad guideline that doesn’t fit everyone by a country mile, but most importantly as safely

The thing is, there are drivers that would run till they ran someone over if allowed. Some people are just stupid that way, and there are some really stupid people that drive trucks.

And, HOS was originally put into place because of trucking companies pushing guys beyond their limits. Just think how the white Volvo crowd would treat their 1099 employee drivers with no restrictions.

Two good points, especially the one about the moron truckers who don’t know when to call it quits for the day and likely contributed to all this bs; even though I’m new I know when I’m at my limit and prefer to pull over rather than go to prison

Yeah, those are the days I dread.! Obviously you are doing it way more frequently than I. Definitely don't envy that aspect of the job.. :D

I picked up a pair of 20' cans here Wed. One of our National Guard posts, in a pretty poor neighborhood. Not nearly the heavy traffic of a 4 lane highway, but a tight squeeze with a few impatient folks..

Couple years ago i took some roofing insulation to some contractor warehouse in so cal. Had to back in off the street. Didnt seem to busy until i started backing up and then cars came out of the woodwork (go figure). Took me a good 15 mins to get it in there even with a spotter, the drive way and gate was only about 9ft wide and no room to pull up on street. Little did i know there was a fire truck with lights on, on my blindside the whole time. Didnt see them until i got to where i could start going straight back into the hole. I felt horrible afterwards, thinking i just helped somebody die.

He would have had sirens if it was life or death, seems like it anyways.

Maybe Jimmy Fokken Two Lane knows?
