In 2010 I decided to drop out of college and go to trucking school on a Federal Grant thru the state employment department.
I graduated July 31 2010 and a month later I was working for a #### company for 400 a week until I got over to another carrier. One of my biggest hurdles was being turned down for some theft felonies from 1994... However one of the bigger carriers gave me a break. THAT same break is available to YOU depending on your crime.
Murder, Sex crimes, major Arson, drug transport will have you working for the worst company in the world if you even get hired.
theft ,burglary, minor assault , minor drug charge won't be held against you so much if it was several years back. THE BIG thing when starting your career in trucking is to have a clean driving record.
some companies will hire you with 1 DUI in the last 5+ years but if you have 2 in a life time it will be very hard. Its the insurance companies that wont insure someone with multiple DUI because of the risk of it happening again.
If you get into one of these bigger companies its very important you learn all you can, don't have accidents or speeding tickets because despite YOUR criminal record if you manage to make it 2 years with no at fault accidents than you will have MUCH less problems with your criminal record holding you back from working for future trucking companies . THEY FIGURE YOU ALREADY PROVED YOU want to work and not be a criminal, they just want to not see any accidents.
The biggest thing is to never give up trying to find a trucking job and remember that it will most likely be pretty ####ty at the start, lower wage, away from home. Just remember you are getting experience and being paid for it and after a year or two you will have enough experience to move to a better company.
I started out in 2010 making 400 a week out 5 days which included unloading at times. After 3 months I worked at Covenant for 1 year teams. Moved on to Interstate as a solo driver for 6 months than moved to a local company doing line haul. 8 years later I am home every night working as an owner operator thanks to an older driver selling me one of his trucks. ( DO NOT JUMP INTO A LEASE )
After fuel , expenses and 500 set aside for maintenance and or PUC I take home any where from 1400 to 2000. ONLY because I stayed the course.
Lastly I dropped out of college and was dam near homeless and pissed at the world because I had some felonies which made finding work dam hard. Ever been turned working for a pizza place because you have a felony that's 16 years or so old?
The Trucking industry gave me a chance and it will give you one too. Oh, my advice to any one is once you get enough money saved up get your record expunged, man is it a good feeling.
GOOD LUCK
Is your criminal record holding you back or are you just po'd?

Ozark will pretty much hire anyone with a clean MVR as long as you've been off paper 8-10 years. They really don't care what you did.
Chinatown Thanks this. -
We need to copy and paste the OP's post and just slap it up as the first and only response on the 5 new questions each day asking the same questions.
1) who will hire me with a criminal record?
2) who will hire me with a DUI/drug conviction?
He did it right.
He's now successful.
BRAVO, and a hearty golf clap !!!Aamcotrans, homeskillet, Lepton1 and 1 other person Thank this. -
A pizza place actually ran a criminal background check on you? Or did you have a brain fart and list your 16 year old crime on the application.

Companies hire me and back in the day I was a ####ing crash dummy. Every possible stupid thing a person could do, I've done.
I stopped making excuses and started making moves. Completely different life now. -
This company is huge and not some little ragbag company and they have benefits. You could say I am living the life of Reilly. We all must give the Devil his due. I live as good and I eat just as good as those big shots in Hollywood because I have much to be proud of. And I help others find a better life when I can.jamespmack Thanks this. -
