You say that like the numbers aren't important. It's those numbers the government is using as an excuse for the over reach of their powers.

 

Saying they're fudged vs mistakes is assuming a lot.

There would have to be way too many people involved to keep it secret. Plus the left/right would have to be working together.

 

The miscounts are negligible compared to the total numbers.

We can only operate with what we know. Not what we don't. Why do you believe there's some huge conspiracy of cover-up when there's a few miscounts? It requires way more info than you actually have. It's a huge leap.
