I may have misread it, but I am of the opinion that it's not just being a DOT person, it's the entire transportation industry. Drivers, operations people, etc. Am I correct? I can tell you that since I entered the industry in the late 1960's women have made great strides in it.

They have to figure out how to get enough trainers to train the females that want to get into the industry first off. That has been my biggest set back since trying to get in. Lots of companies will take females, but they don't have female trainers for them. Unless you already know someone that will take you on, the waiting lists are about a year.

So, go with a male trainer, if the company will allow it. That's what I am going to do if there are no female trainers available. I want to drive.

I will go with a male trainer if/when I can find one willing to take me on. I have no issues with it, but I understand the male point of view regarding worry of a sexual harassment charge should the female get upset about something. Myself, I want to learn to drive, but I realize the companies and the men have to look out for themselves.

I don't believe in favoring one gender over another...I think those who enjoy it...and are competant at it, should get into it...whether male or female...

Or if they're going to do that, why not encourage more young males to get into 'nursing' or to become 'flight stewards'...

Didn't say there wasn't any or men was better, all I meant was its a tough job, especially for women. And your right, a lot of women are better at it then some men. I used to give road tests for my company and the women would ask questions, pay better attention and listen better then the men would.

They want women in trucking cause they would stop and ask for directions. This is what a guy trucker laughingly said to me today.
