Reitnouer j-plates

I think mine came with 20. To be honest I rarely use them.

You can absolutely chain to them. That's all I have ever used them for.

They do come in handy every now and then with some PIA odd ball loads, making it easier versus trying to get the chain around the spools between the rub rail, certain machinery loads etc etc. Coils is another.

I didn't need to use them on this load but did anyhow. Just an example for you 2 see how they can be used.

Where did you purchase it from? Maxmiser or big bubba?

 

I bring about 10 with me. They are good for oddball pipe loads with ratchet straps. Like if you have 1 24’ pipe you can place them close and pull DOWN on it instead of out 4’ on both sides. I rarely use then though and never have used more than 4 or 6?
Also good for suicidal coils for straps over the top of the tarps.

 

I've got them for my Big Bubba, and use them exclusively. And love them. But I also run a sidekit.

J-hooks, I've found, prevent damage to the spools and stake pockets. They also open up options for better freight procurement. Especially when tying down stacked slotted coils or the big eye to the sky aluminum coils out of Alcoa or Logan. You can get your tie downs a lot closer to your freight, which gives you more direct downward force, rather than running all the way out to the trailer's edge. This is, of course, with a Rietnouer and a five track setup.

J-hooks ARE a bit of a pain at the start. But once you get used to them, they do make the job easier and safer. At least, in my own opinion.

 

I rarely use my j-hooks. I’ve used them on mini excavators so you have an anchor point to pull in the right direction. Especially when you have five mini ex on your trailer.

some other fellas with my company use them for a lot of different applications. I’ve seen them used on articulated loaders so they can get a direct pull to bag the tires. I’m not sure how well that works though. I prefer the stake pocket, but will use one or here and there if I’m in a jam and need a anchor point.

 

I have j hooks on one of my manac’s- i use them in the front few feet of the trailer, where i tend to use 2” ratchet straps, my winch side id have to wrap the ratchet around a pocket n i dont prefer to do that.

i do not prefer j hooks over about anything else, but they do have their place for certain work in that theyd be easier to make a load tight and secure.
Last reitnour i owned had a conestoga kit and i was doing ltl with it. Made for some significantly easier tying down on machinery vs trying to chain down thru the rubber gasket on the pipe spools from the ground/then running the chain where it needed to go/back on the ground to run the other side around the spool/back on the deck to tighten all the binders.


I want to say theres about 20 on my wagon now; whatever it come with. If i use 4 total at once its a lot.

 

If you give a #### about your equipment, you'll use them. Same with chain ties or D rings. I use mine exclusively on my Doonan step, even hauling weight. Same with my last doonan, Mac junk, and Benson. If I tie to a spool I have enough towels around it to make any car detailer jealous. I refuse to destroy my trailer for someone else's freight. I don't even nail to my nailers.

 

In my opinion anyone that has tie down systems and don't use them is just plain lazy and doesn't care about their equipment.
