if i were to act as a hiring manager and call my previous employers to get an idea of what they are saying as references what department would a hiring manager want to talk to? I've had a few interviews they like my experience but I haven't been hearing back from them after. Only had one previous company so the search is pretty narrow

Most companies will only give what is required by law. The dates of employment and if reference is on a driver, his driving record and drug screens results. Anymore information could easily turn into a lawsuit and therefore no personal opinions about the employee is not going to be given.

Trucking companies are notoriously known for retaliation when you quit...However more and more of them are getting sued for such conduct. This is the only way it will stop. Think about it. What’s really at play is a company is trying to “own you” you are not their property. It’s not your problem it’s hard to find good drivers.....It’s not your problem it’s hard to find good drivers. If you did a good job for them and they still slander you?
Speed_Drums Thanks this. -
It was fine honestly until I made them aware I was looking to go local, then I was asked if I wanted to put my two weeks in. I said I would if I found a favorable position and I was told to clean out my truck. They said they would note it as if I had put in my two weeks and I was paid out all the vacation pay I had coming.

Eligible for rehire ?
Yes or no ?
All of my past employers have listed me as eligible for rehire. I wouldn’t rehire myself back at a couple of those places lol !!!
That seems to be where employers are going now days. -
In almost every situation a simple reply from an old employer satisfies part 391. Dates worked, the reason for separation, and rehire status. This is the way most 3rd party businesses like DAC/Hireright formats their headers. If they have any questions they will seek more detail. People need to forget about privacy rules in this process. Almost all carriers both small and mega will NOT send out a request for information until YOU the driver complies with their demand for a written statement authorizing the old employer to give out information being sought, that's how it is and it is almost impossible to get around this. Some carriers will even want a written authorization before they pull DAC. Listen, if you have something bad you are trying to keep hidden if it has anything to do with this job and staying in compliance I HIGHLY recommend you DO NOT attempt to hide behind privacy laws.
To the OP, to be 100% honest, I would recommend getting a copy of your DAC and look at that first. You can get a free copy. I don't have the link, but I am sure somebody will post one. -
I went for my dac report and they reported to have found nothing and canceled my request
