Interesting set up with two air springs, this is not OEM.
I had many problems with this Hendrickson Steertek on my last truck, Volvo 780. The airbags , airlines leaking, leveling valves always had to watch and adjust the height or would bounce like crazy. This axle is welded hollow to save weight, very weak flimsy, i replaced the entire beam twice because it bent in tow. There's a special procedure and fork on Hendrickson site how to tow the truck equipped with this axle, but most tow truck drives don't know and neither did i. I sold the truck and got one used with classic simple leaf springs, shocks only much better.

I've never even seen that setup on a 780. I've heard of it though. Glad my ignorance and luck led me to a regular axle.

Good heavens, what an abortion. America,,,freedom. Not the most unusual K-Whopper. They made a "Cab Beside" motor. Some, I think, had a sleeper on the right side next to the motor,,

There was a great story written about that truck and why the owners did that. I wonder if it is still around. It made the truck show circuit rounds for years when they were working it. It was an older couple from the glory days so they may no longer be with us. That pic looks like no older than 20-25 maybe?

Legend has it that another cabover kw was made into a 4 door back then by splicing 2 cabs together at the firewall to the back of the cab and was gutted and flat floored into the house. It ran around the country for years but very few pictures were taken. They say Stan Holtzman the legendary truck photographer had a b&w pic of it that was lost and never published.

I trained in a crew cab FLD. It was weird, and absolutely no fun to learn to back up as a newb.

If you passed in that thing you could back anything up.

Our electric co-op and UP railroad has a bunch of those heavy FLDs and some older medium duty Internationals and Sterlings to run crews around in.
