    If you take apart the DPF yourself, it might be best to figure out how to put it back together properly. I ended up using the old clamps on new gaskets for the canister, and I ended up with an exhaust leak at both connections. My 5" inlet and outlet got new clamps and gaskets and had no problems.

    When I removed the bottom clamp, I found that the filter wasn't centered on the bottom housing anymore. I'm pretty sure I installed it evenly, but whoever serviced it or installed it before me almost stripped the head, so I wasn't able to torque it down as hard as I wanted. I also might have over tightened the clamp that holds the filter to the frame, so the leverage from pulling it in also ended up slightly pushing the bottom out. Regardless of why it all happened, it probably could've been avoided by getting new clamps.

    I ended up using permatex copper on the inside of the old clamp, as well as on the outside of the joint on the canister. I gave it 24 hours to cure before putting them together, torqued it down until I thought it might strip, and it ended up fixing the leak. We'll see if it lasts, and hopefully it's not that bad to remove when the time comes.

    I also needed a new inlet NOx sensor after reinstalling it. The two I got online for like $250-300 didn't work, so I ended up getting an OEM one online for around $500 I believe. It's better than the $700-800 that the dealer wanted.

    I got lucky on the NOX sensors. The cheap one I got online was OEM, the upstream one, which is the one I happened to need. The downstream one I got was obviously not. I could tell a big difference in the packaging and the quality. I still kept it and it's in the tool box in the truck if I ever need it.

    Yeah, it is hard to get everything lined back up. The biggest screw up I made was not marking all the sensor connections and wires. I had to look at a few online pictures to figure it out.

    2 more things on this job. Check both of your flex pipes really carefully while you've got it apart. Now is the time to do them if either need it.

    Second, I did have a NOX code but I bought the OTR Volvo scan/regen tool. It took me a long time to swallow shelling out $500 for that thing but I feel better knowing it's on the truck and I can get past a derate on the road if it ever happens.

    Volvo sounds dependable. I test drove a new vn in 1997, but I bought a new Peterbilt. And then traded for another new one 5 years later.
    Glad to hear Volvo's are generally good. If I ever decide to get back on the road, I might go check one out. I do know the one I drove turned incredibly sharp. The Peterbilts required a somewhat wider turn.

    I noticed used Volvos and some others have a somewhat lower resale price compared to others. That's good for me, because I would be looking at used trucks. New anything is expensive these days.

    That's for sure on the new prices! I've noticed that the Freightliners, Internationals, and Volvos generally have lower resale. I think in part because the market is flooded with them. Still chugging along with my '13 VNM and its doing pretty good.

    Hi, I have a Mack SXU VISION 2014 with motor D13 MP8.
    I have a leak in the exhaust leak with the smell of oil and gasoline
    I have checked the head and the turbo, and both are good
    Does anyone know what else should I check?
