Hi,
Got a long way to go, but what are the best looking/performing old trucks out there? Is it more cost effective to buy an old one when going O/O?
Best regards, John

I guess it would depend on what yr pulling and what company policies are. I have a 1991 379, 15 speed, 893ci 14.7L turbo engine. I can pull tree stumps, so to speak. Its way overkill for the whats being asked of it now. However, I still get 5mpg. Hiring companies have age restrictions regarding vehicles.

There’s a lot of old Trucks, 2002 and older nowadays, due to Emissions. More than ever. A lot of them have been preserved well. Sometimes it can be a problem Leasing them to a Carrier, due to age requirements. As far as what Brand, that’s an open book. Depends on what you like, and what you can afford. Everyone’s got their favorites. Pete’s, KWs. Western Stars, Mack’s. And yes, even Freightliner’s , Volvo’s, but not Sterling’s, nobody likes Sterling’s, Lol.

When you buy a truck you're really buying the engine. Everything else is secondary

Also, pretty much everything on a truck can be rebuilt, replaced, or upgraded. From axles to engine to frame to interior.

I have 1 question for you: Are you mechanically inclined? Yes? An old truck might be a good option. No? You are at the mercy of whatever shop you go to, and so whatever you drive had better be under warranty.
