Hi,
Got a long way to go, but what are the best looking/performing old trucks out there? Is it more cost effective to buy an old one when going O/O?
Best regards, John

You looking for best bang for your buck or something that makes you look twice?Shawn2130, Coffey, Rideandrepair and 1 other person Thank this.

Both and anything in between, but I suppose the better and less immature answer would be, “More bang for your buck.”Coffey, meechyaboy and Rideandrepair Thank this.

I guess it would depend on what yr pulling and what company policies are. I have a 1991 379, 15 speed, 893ci 14.7L turbo engine. I can pull tree stumps, so to speak. Its way overkill for the whats being asked of it now. However, I still get 5mpg. Hiring companies have age restrictions regarding vehicles.
Coffey and farmerjohn64 Thank this. -
Bang for buck would probably be a used Freightliner with a Detroit 60 series, cheap enough parts, reliable, and pretty easy on mileage. I wouldn't settle for anything without at least a 475 Cat, but I've been bit by the horsepower bug. Something a little more along the lines of class with fuel mileage would be a 379 or W9 with a N14 or a Detroit.rachi, Speed_Drums, tommymonza and 5 others Thank this.

There’s a lot of old Trucks, 2002 and older nowadays, due to Emissions. More than ever. A lot of them have been preserved well. Sometimes it can be a problem Leasing them to a Carrier, due to age requirements. As far as what Brand, that’s an open book. Depends on what you like, and what you can afford. Everyone’s got their favorites. Pete’s, KWs. Western Stars, Mack’s. And yes, even Freightliner’s , Volvo’s, but not Sterling’s, nobody likes Sterling’s, Lol.
farmerjohn64 and D.Tibbitt Thank this. -
When you buy a truck you're really buying the engine. Everything else is secondary
tommymonza, Ffx95, Chinatown and 3 others Thank this. -
Also, pretty much everything on a truck can be rebuilt, replaced, or upgraded. From axles to engine to frame to interior.
Shawn2130, tommymonza, Coffey and 3 others Thank this. -
I have 1 question for you: Are you mechanically inclined? Yes? An old truck might be a good option. No? You are at the mercy of whatever shop you go to, and so whatever you drive had better be under warranty.
Shawn2130, speedyk, Accidental Trucker and 9 others Thank this. -
Yeppers, and they'll sell ya a sz ton of chrome, haha!
Coffey, farmerjohn64, lovesthedrive and 1 other person Thank this.
