How Much Does It Cost......

I hate to say it but if you look at your city and county governments you will find that they too take advantage of federal money and turn over. First responders generate income from the feds for required training. It pays small government to find reasons to get rid of the well trained veteran employee by hiring two who do not know what they are doing. They really do not care if the job gets done right or if it gets done at all. It seems to be a trend throughout the country. Kind of a bummer. I noticed that the "We'll pay your way." companies are not that interested in you if you do not come with a govt training fund. I am headed to school here in S.California and will pay about four grand out of my pocket even though I have done the medical card, haz-mat and combo airbrake endorsements on my own. I wish I knew somebody who wanted me to practice with their truck. Good Luck on that. LOL Isn't that like asking someone if you could practice on his wife or Harley?

To get back to the original question, vice the cost of various trucking schools outside of companies, for my company, we assume that there is a hiring cost of $5,000 oper driver to hire them and actually get them in the truck on their first load. Tha includes all the hiring process, background checks, medical tests, the cost of paying them and their trainer for the roughly 10 days they spend learning how to operate a trailer loading and unloading. It also includes the cost of motel rooms and airfare or transportation to Indiana for the 6 days of company schooling and the costs associated with that training. The initial clothing and safety boots, and other personal equipment needed come together to make up the rest of the bill.

We only hiore drives already experienced with a CDL, so this doesn't include the costs of setting up a trucking school, or the equipment costs involved in that. This is solely the training needed to take an already qualified driver off the street and put him in a position to deliver his first load by himself.

I would not be able to afford a $5000.00 + school right now if I was paying, I am leaving the service in a few months and with a wife and three kids I will need something pretty quick(a good job). I believe the VA will pay for most of the school. Otherwise, I would definitely not be going this route.

I don't think they will pay for the uniforms and the processing fee of the school. So, I may have to cough up about $700. I put all of the cost's onto the application to the VA, and now I am just waiting to see what they pick up.

But, if you know this private school is still around I might want to look into it. I also noticed you are from Baltimore. Right now I only live about an hour south of Baltimore.(Calvert county, Md) Is this private school local to Baltimore? I was thinking if they had weekend classes I might be able to go through school while still in the service, this way I will not be going too long with out an income.

They informed me it is because they teach professionalism as well as driving a truck. The uniforms aren't that great. They only include a button down shirt with an American flag on one sleeve and the All State patch on the other. Most of the students I seen were wearing jeans with the gray button down shirt. I guess I kind of see there point, to many student's in the past were wearing UN-appropriate attire.
