I don’t think the State Police know that law.

I got pulled over for speeding and had a nice long talk with the Occiffer as I sat with my bare feet and he was at my open passenger door.

    Never a word about it.

Good to read that others on here live by my credo of no shoes beyond the door.

Picking up at a mud/manure laced farm every other day it was a challenge to keep the mud poop out along with The flies.

But I kept my truck spotless inside , wiped the floor and pedals down with vinegar and paper towels from the fuel island every time I fueled.

Boot brush and than cut a up outdoor door mat attached to the steps to start . A outdoor mat cut to fit under the pedals .

Bath rug at the foot of the bed that was only rolled out after parked.

Hated spring and fall and having to deal with the deep mud and wearing manure boots and than having to climb in and out of the truck 2-4 times to check trailer height and hookup.

Other drivers at the farm would watch me like I had a screw loose but I had seen the inside of their trucks.

I tried it for a while. I can't do it. I wear composite toe work boots in mine and when I need to move I ain't got time to lace up. That barefoot #### is for the dock humpers that got all day to back into a spot. The only time the come off prior to entry is when they are covered in mud, otherwise they stay on in the seat and off in the bunk.

First year OTR I wore boots, but I kept getting disgusted with all that truck stop filth making into my “home”.

After that 1st year, the shoes never make it past the door. Have a brush and bottle of lysol to wipe out the stuff that make it near pedals.

One downside to not wearing shoes or boots while driving:

One day I was bobtail through Wichita Falls TX with a blown out super single tire strapped to my 5th wheel (because my company requires that we return them).

It's at least 100° outside and I notice out my window that the strap is flapping far enough to the side for me to see it so before it gets tangled up I pulled over on the overpass with a wide shoulder in the middle of town and run back there and fix it in 5 seconds.

When I get back to get in the truck somehow the door is locked. I didn't lock it but it was locked.

So here I am standing next to my idling truck, no shoes, no keys, no phone, wearing shorts. Looking like a #######. I see police pass by at least 3 times and never stop to ask me wtf I'm doing.

I tried to break the passenger side window with a winch bar but that didn't work. Windows we're all the way up but somehow I managed to sneak a bungee in there, hook it to the handle and get back on the road. Took at least an hour.

Since that day 5 years ago I no longer return tires to the company shop. I carried that heavy thing around for like 2 months from California, Canada, Florida, etc.

Ive wore work boots for close to 25 years. A couple of years ago I got tired of it. Started wearing tennis shoes. Kept boots on truck for when I needed them when pulling a flatbed. I am suppose to wear steal toed boots for my food service job. Do in the winter. It’s tennis shoes all summer. Have boots in the truck for when it rains.

I think, DOT rules say something about a driver's footwear as shoes or boots being laced up.

I was thinking about it and I can't see anything about barefooted driving compromising safety.
It is sure safer than pumping pedals with flip flops but it may look just as unprofessional.
Anyhow, I am glad I am not the only one out there to find comfort in that.
