Is there some kind of training or something you're supposed to do about the spotted lantern fly if you are a Carrier in Pennsylvania?

Looks that way. I recently started a job with a carrier that has a terminal in PA and I had to watch some silly video about the lantern fly. Whoever made the video had something in there about killing them with soapy water or somesuch. Like they really expect truck drivers to go out of their way to mess a round with insects...and not be paid for it.

What the heck is a lantern fly? And can they withstand an impact of the front bumper? If so, we got trouble,,,
TheLoadOut, God prefers Diesels, Cattleman84 and 9 others Thank this. -
I had never heard of them before being required to watch the video. Apparently its some invasive insect species that can threaten the lumber industry. If they can't withstand soapy water I doubt they have much defense against a front bumper.

Go to the site, look through it and they will give you a cert. The drivers that run in and out of there every week fill out the inspection report and turn in with the BOL's. A couple have been checked.

If you have not registered with PA or NJ and get checked, you can be fined...Most of eastern PA and western NJ is a quarantine zone and you are supposed to look for hitch hiking egg masses and the bugs when you pick up a trailer spotted or parked in the zone.
Some places they are very visible, you can see a bunch in one town and none a few miles away.
Seen them in Bucks, Berks, Lehigh and Northampton counties but I don;t see them at my cabin in Monroe.
They don't fly but glide and have a reputation of riding a ways and the smear of an egg mass looks like a smear of mud and they don't want them getting away.
Watched 'em last year at the lake in Cobs Creek Park gliding down into the water and feeding the fish....
Watched them riding the thermals at the Freemansburg hillclimb, you would swear they can fly....Last edited: Jul 28, 2020
