...when you're required to take your truck home with you but you don't have avaiable parking on your property bc you live in the suburbs? Curious to hear from those in this situation. TIA.
What are other parking options....

Very few of us are required to take our trucks home. It's more of a convenience...if the company will let you.
But, parking is worked out by the driver. I use my driveway when I'm bobtail. And the restaurant down the street when I have a trailer attached.
Each individual driver will offer you his scenario, and they all differ. Some have to pay, others don't. -
Think RV parking/storage as a possible solution

Just find some place close to home that has a large lot where you could park out of the way. Go talk to the owners and nicely ask if you might be allowed to park your rig their while on hometime and explain to them this may only be a couple days every few weeks or whatever your running situation is. Check with local factories, farmers, anybody or place that has room you could park.

Sounds like the question was for the tractor and not the tractor and trailer. In that case you might try the parking lot of a school, local convenience store or a public area owned by the municipality (i.e. electric substation, well station or sewage pump station). All used with the permission of the owner of course.

Thanks for the replies. Those are some good ideas, I didn't even think about RV/boat storage at a storage unit.

I used to use the walmart parking lot, have parked on the street on the main truck route through town before, and also there is a weigh station that is no longer in use I couldve parked. Ive also taken just the bobtail home before and parked it on the street by my house, theres about 6 guys in my town that park the bobtail on there street in residential areas. But thats not an option in some towns as most people here dont care or think the truck is cool.

hes from lancaster pa, plenty of places to park out there, a lot of its farm land, try lowes, home depot prob wont let u, try wal-mart, as the amish... u should try and find urself a place to park it, wheres its safe, and not cost u anything. using the rv and boat places are good idea, but cost money, id use that for a last attempt

Sometimes other trucking companies will let you use their lot, with permission......
dollylama Thanks this. -
Storage is the best option, pay a monthly fee, store car there, move car, park truck, take car home. Boom truck is safe and legally parked. That was what we did when we worked at Werner, SNI didn't let you bring the truck home without a signed contract, 2 pints of blood, and your first born.
