    You're absolutely correct.

When I was growing up, one of my favorite things to go to the Indian burial mounds. The place was run by an Indian gentleman, who would welcome visitors with, "Welcome to the Indian Burial Grounds and Cultural Heritage Museum".

He would make himself available to answer questions and explain artifacts, traditions, and aspects of the culture.

The thing about feathers is, they were a symbol of respect. They were earned through victories in battle, or accomplishing great feats. They were a sign of honor, rank, and prestige in the community.

So, calling a cop a "bear with feathers", would be a great compliment, and a show of respect to the officer.

Nice try. The police officer here had no need of being racially described. It was unnecessary and a clear bigoted, knee-jerk, racist reaction that was disguised as a joke in order to perpetuate bigotry among the ignorant. It no longer fits the mentality of the nation and anyone who condones the folksy "awwww, it's just a joke" BS is doomed to be relegated to a bygone era where the subtle slur of someone based on the color of their skin is no longer acceptable behavior-- much less funny.

Look around you, the world is changing. The woman's movement, Black Lives Matter, MeToo, Confederate flags, symbols and statues representing hatred being removed, Police reform, Trump's downfall, and much more all are signs of dramatic and rapid change happening right now in this country. People are moving forward toward a more compassionate future. What you are witnessing in this thread first hand is a shared attitude that, in the near future, nobody is going to tolerate victimization anymore at any level.

So go ahead and resist the tide, if you must. Find some rationalization for your backwards ideology. The future is coming like a sunami -- drowning the outdated perspectives of the past. The good ole boy is soon to be dead....along with all his cruel indifference.

Such BS. Go do it then and see what happens. My guess is you'd be tarred and feathered.

You certainly are if you think the OP meant his characterization as a complement. Well, maybe just a bigot which is more like a racist in denial.

Bro you're parroting all the insane social justice warrior tropes. This country has come so amazingly far from the ugly past we learned about in school and now people like you are being used to tear all that apart and shove a gigantic wedge between the citizens of this country. You are honestly coming off as an angry person.

I think the OP was talking about the agency that would be writing the ticket not the individual in the seat of said agency's vehicle.
Identical to saying that there's a state trooper, highway patrol, county sherriff or town cop. OP was just asking what we thought is the best way to describe the agency in question. I for one feel that he chose a perfect descriptor. I also feel that there was zero bad intent in doing so.
I think you could make more positive changes if you came out to the rez and preached your viewpoints here. I'm sure you would be well received. The fact is, most groups of people prefer honesty over politically correctness. Yes they're natives, and yes they're proud. Rightfully so in my opinion, and if they can get you overweight or speeding on their land... I'll just call it reparations.
