I got a ticket in Ontario just over a year ago for not wearing a seat belt with 2 demerit points. I've been driving for 2 years without any other incidents or any accidents on the road or off. I've had two other level 2 inspections in Ontario without an issue or defect. I'm a highway driver. I do my 70 hours then go home for 2 days. I'm really not enjoying this any more and really want to get a local job so I can spend more time with my family.
There are lots of local AZ and DZ jobs in my area but this ticket is holding me back as they all ask for a clean abstract. I can't even apply for a G-Licence delivery job. I read on Commercial or Professional Driver Tickets in Ontario - CVOR Points that the points are only "used for corrective action levels for a period of 2 years from the date of conviction". Is this true? I know the CVOR abstract goes back 5 years but after 2 years will the points be gone and a local company would be willing to hire me? I think if I have to work another 4 years as a highway driver for the sake of a "clean abstract" then I'd likely need to get out of trucking.
I got a ticket but I'm looking for a new job

I really can't imagine why a seatbelt ticket would prevent you from getting a local job. There are many many driver out there that have a much worse abstract then a seat belt ticket.
BigHossVolvo, tinytim and Canadianhauler21 Thank this. -
Are you located in Ontario where you got the ticket? For example:
P&D Driver with AZ License - Toronto, ON - Indeed.com
P&D Driver with AZ License - Toronto, ON - Indeed.com This job pays good @ 25/hr to begin and in the city. However, does not say anything about tickets. I'd say try a few of them out wherever you are located one should consider you especially seeing on Indeed how much Az drivers are needed this Summer. -
I live in London so Toronto is too far away. I think it's for insurance purposes. I was told that the demerit points or safety points will be transferred to the safety record of whatever company I work for and that not wearing a seatbelt is actually worse than crashing into a car because I was deliberately being unsafe rather than in an accident. I only have experience pulling dry vans so that limits my options too, although I'm willing to learn anything and physical work is not a problem.
It would help if someone could share their experience of applying for jobs with a less than perfect CVOR?tinytim Thanks this. -
I would think you should apply for the job you want, and be upfront and honest about the ticket. See what they say.
