I was in the same boat a couple of months ago. I tried Maverick and they wanted the 1 year in the last 3 years that everybody else did. I must have applied to 50 different companies. After tons of follow up calls I still had nothing. Then I got lucky. I was trying to get my employment verified for one of the big companies and called up the guy I had drove for 4 years ago. I knew his company had went under, it was going down when I left. After he had lost all 20 of his trucks and was bankrupt he started over again. Now I am driving one of his 3 trucks. The pay isn't the best and I have no benefits but worst case, after a year I will have my experience back current and can do something else, best case I can learn from his mistakes and get my own truck and have a year of watching all aspects of a small operation to build on.

Heartland has a driver refresher option, or they did. I have been out 9 months and had a heck of a time finding a job.

I did have a few companies tell me I would need a 40 hour refresher course at a local school. LOL!

    Hello

Just an old feller trying to get back into trucking here, the wife and I just got back from following our dream, we sailed off into the sunset on our 35ft sailboat for 5 years - cruising & living the good life.

We have returned & its back to reality - bills to pay & all the stuff that makes life worth living.

I have run into a catch-22, I thought getting a job on my return would be a snap, truck drivers can always find a job - right - WRONG !!!!!!

The companies I have contacted, including my past two employers say they can not hire me unless I have driven in the last 3 years. I have been out of the cab for 7 sailing the oceans. Heck of a thing with a fellow with van & hazmat tanker experience to face.

Anywho - if any of ya"ll know a way out of my catch-22 situation please pass it on. In the meanwhile I am planning on contacting a few driving schools to see if perhaps a refresher course may help or maybe drive a popsicle truck or something to get 6 months recent experience.

Lots of good info on this site - I like it.
