Revving engine before releasing clutch?

Some trucks have a weak idle, and others need power coming up a hill from a stop. Usually idle works fine, but no need to stick to what the teacher taught you. Learn how to use your truck better.

 

If you are talking about a quick blipping of the throttle than release the clutch that I think is done by some guys as a signal that the truck is about to move.
If it’s a rev and hold while the clutch is slipped/released than that is probably just bad driving habits.

I drove a Ford L8000 with a mechanical 8.3 liter Cummins for a while. That thing was so gutless you had to give it some throttle when you pulled out from a stop.

It's just a habit for some people I guess.

 

1968 Mack R600 would stall on steeper grades.....another gutless wonder w/ the Maxi-torque 5 speed...sign said hill, time to downshift to 4th....on a real hill you worried about dropping down to second....going up Pocono on I-80 I would be passed by Associiated's road commodes....

 

I find that driver’s that raise the idle and hold while letting off the clutch pedal is usually due to weak idle power or bad driving habits.

My M11 330 hp engine will pull a loaded 5 axle trailer at just idle and letting off the clutch pedal.

 

Only point to side stepping a clutch is to destroy the drive shaft.

 

Short answer with today modern engine....NO! Reason they do this....just look at what is "teaching" these youngsters to operate the rig....no experience, none if any knowledge and loaded with bad habits they are just passing on.

 

That’s because people are idiots and don’t know how to select low gear to take off and would rather destroy a clutch starting off in second or third, 190, 220, 237, 290 horse I have never had to rev the truck to take off
