Man bro. I didn't have a good feeling about IRT. Im sure you read what I had to say about them. Mendie was my recruiter... But they were my 2nd option. Hopefully things pick up. But I'll keep yall updated about my time here at Oakley in case you might want to make a move. You should start a thread about IRT.

Forgot to mention a couple things. IRT told me they had a South East division which would allow me to get home often... Then next thing i know they said they didn't and would have to keep out 3+ weeks.

And the way that say the miles work is like this.

They said they are calculated uding RanMcnally movers guide. Never heard of it but he said it was pretty much like actual miles. He said sometimes it's a little less, sometimes its a little more.

I havnt met an unhappy driver yet so I can imagine it's that bad of a deal. We will see. Im very good at keeping track of alk that stuff and making sure my pay is what it's supposed to be. If anyone is going to find an issue, it'll be me. Trust me.

I didn't have the experiences with recruiting as you did, infact I would go so far as to say Indian River were the friendliest and up front with info of all the trucking recruiters I have encountered. Everything went smooth as silk with the pre orientation phase of the process.

As for starting a thread, I like staying under the radar and would rather avoid anyone at Indian River knowing who I am. I used to be very active on a thread for another company I used to work for and it didn't take long for the powers that be to figure out who forum members were. Not that I said anything to jeopardize my job, but I just would rather be able to speak openly without having to think about who may be watching and how they may perceive me.

Never heard of a South East division, but there are dedicated drivers on certain accounts so who knows. I was offered OTR (which is what I wanted) or a hazmat division running pump trailers. It paid more, but I would rather start off with the simpler food grade/no touch.

Most loads pay slightly less miles than actual, but there have been a few that paid more depending on the route you took.

As for routes, they send you fuel plans and route plans. Neither one appears to be set in stone, but they do warn that if you take a significantly longer route you could be charged per mile for it. Apparently one driver picked up in NJ delivering to California and routed himself by his house in TX.

If I veer from the route plan it's to save miles, not add to it and as for fuel, I do get fuel in the states they list even if it's not the specific truck stop so that way they don't get screwed on IFTA.

I've thought a lot about me posting on here about Oakley for the same reason you mentioned. But I figured im not telling anyone any trade secrets or snything you couldn't figure out by calling a recruiter. Im very careful about what i say... And if They ever read this, I'm literally saying only good things about them which just happen to be true. So i dont think I'll have an issue...

Now i was thinking about talking to the personal relations or HR manager about my YouTube video i wanted to make. I figure it would be best for me to make it, show them and let them decide. I can tell you now it's going to be a great video. I actually think they would appriciate it. Well see.

Arkansas and Arizona for sure Hazmat has to enter scales even if your Prepass gives you a go. Arkansas will chase you down if they see you and give you a ticket, along with a pamphlet from PrePass showing all the state restrictions, which you company should be giving you anyway.

Okay guys, day 3 in the bags.

Today was mostly all about HAZMAT, and let me tell you something. The guy we have running our orientation class is top notch. This guy is a no BS type of guy who has his sheet together. Ive learned more today about HAZMAT than i've learned my whole HAZMAT career which is over 3+ years. Thats not a lot of time but it says a lot. I think they have a really good system down and they make it real easy to not only learn the materials you need to know, but how to retain them and apply them to the real world. Ive been real impressed and every day that goes by, is a day that makes me believe ive made the right move. Im not just saying that either and dont say that quite often. Take it how you will.

So today. We talked a lot about what Oakley specifically hauls. Mostly alcohol and citrus products. Apparently Oakley is the number 1 distributor of Alcohol products in the US, so they must doing something right.

We talked about the different placards we will be using and how to make sure our BOL reflects exactly what we are hauling and how to make sure everything is correct. I will be honest, I was a little worried it might be kinda hard. But this training has really eased my worries and made me feel confident that ill know what im doing and be able to handle any issues that may come up.

We went over exactly how to communicate what we are doing as far as checking seals, letting the company know if we are under a load, off loading, what needs to be shown on BOL, basically everything to keep things running smoothly and making sure everyone gets paid. Great job BTW. Any questions anyone or myself had, we got the answers too.

We talked about how to make sure the trailer and tank was up to DOT standards.

And we talked about how to use the Giant Green Pocketbook ( Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations Pocketbook) along with the Orange Book ( Emergency Response Guidebook) to our benefit.

We talked about how to not get into trouble with DOT as far cell phones, railroad crossings, paperwork along with staying safe out there. We out hauling food grade liquor obviously.

We talked about pleasing the customer and upholding a respectable image/attitude with shippers and receivers and pretty much everyone.

We also got reimbursed cash for anything we had to spend out of pocket. I got reimbursed for my gas and luggage with a dinner allowance. I spent 15 on gas, 35 on luggage, and 25 for dinner allowance. So i got 75 bucks. I spent 81 on my passport but apparently you get the Pass Port reimbursement once it comes in the mail (you could get denied). Same with HAZMAT but I had mine already.

We also signed some more paperwork and did a few test.

Of course I cant cover everything as it was quite thorough.

Now I had a question regarding layover and break down pay.
-Layover pays works as such. 100/day. first 24 hours is free but you have to be layed over 48 hours to get it. So basically after 48 hours you get a 100 dollars and a 100 dollars every 24 hours after. so if i was layed over for 30 hours we dont get anything. hopefully thats not to confusing.
-Breakdown day pay is 100/day from 1st day.

Oh yeah, dont want to forget the food. Breakfast was same as day 1. Eggs, hash browns, bacon, and pancakes fom IHOP. I actually enjoy it very much. Lunch we got to choose from either different kinds of salad, ca zone or however its spelled, sub sandwich, or wings. I got a chicken breast sandwich but also got to snag a meatball sandwich after class because it was left over. Score!

Tomorrow is my pump training day and friday we will be getting our trucks, As always I will keep yall updated. As always post any questions you may have.

Serious question. Do you think Oakley will have any problems with me making these updates? Im thinking about letting them know but I don't want to draw any attention to myself. I kinda mentioned it a little and I got the impression that they would like the exposure because they are trying to grow their company. And if your thinking about applying, PM me!!!!

I imagine they probably would not like it if you started mentioning customers or the actual product you are hauling.

Can't see them taking issue with you sharing what you ate in orientation. :)

Looking forward to your truck assignment. I can't help feeling a little envy when I see one of their new Volvos.

Here we are guys. Day 4.

Today was all about truck pumping and the intransit heat.

For breakfast we had eggs, potato wedges, bacon, and pancakes. For lunch we had some bomb azs pizza from a local pizza place. I ate half a pizza to myself while the other guys made comments about how much I eat.

There were 4 of us in the class who had to go threw pump training. We went out to the yard where they had a truck set up to do pumping on. The teacher walked us threw a pump off and then we each took turns doing it a couple times. I got sunburn on my face and arms. Not bad but I think ill invest into some sunscreen. They asked me if I want to go on my own already because I did well during my pump training but I decided it would be best if I stayed with a trainer for at least for a couple days to get a feel of how things will be. Ive never done food grade before and didnt want to just go into it after one day of pump training although ill admit it is not very hard at all. Maybe thats because I had a good teacher or maybe its because all my other sucked ###.

After pump training most of the day, we went inside to learn more about the intransit heat and how that works. Its only 2 hoses and is simple enough.

Then they gave us our official Oakley Transport badge along with a hardhat, glasses, and some other stuff we might need on site. Then we called it a day around 5.

Tomorrow they said we should have a short day, That is when we will be getting our trucks. Some of our trucks are Volvos with no windows and no fridge with carrier APUs.

Then we have New trucks with windows and fridges in them. Those have different APUs in them but i cant remember the name of them. Ill remember and make an edit. Some people have been having a lot of problems with the carrier APUs but honestly after reading a lot of post about some of the problems the people have been having, I think a lot of it is lack of maintenance or knowledge on the drivers part. IDK how some people dont know these things have air filters that need changing, oil that needs monitoring, radiators that need cleaning, ect.... they think they'll just run forever while having to do nothing to them. Oakley should be on them about it though but I really dont know how all that works.

Tomorrow they said we will have a short day and get our trucks. Hopefully ill be able to run to Walmart and get some shoes, some tools, maybe a few things for the truck and whatever I might need and make it a short day. Im in need of a brew to cool down the sun burn and maybe ill just do that tomorrow, who knows. but Sat and Sun will be more pump training for the guys, including myself, who had to stay for more pump training. Then Monday is when we should be going out to do some actual loads with the customer. Thats what im looking forward to.

Im going to really try to start editing together my Oakley video this weekend so I can get it out there. Everything from talking to the recruiter, my plane trip, the hotel and food to orientation, pay, and my truck will be on that video. So I will let you guys know as soon as I get it posted on the YouTube.

As always guys, thanks for chiming in and IF YOUR GOING TO APPLY, SEND ME A PRIVATE MESSAGE. There are some things I don't want to post on here id like to tell you about!!! good days guys. Im going to crash out.
