I had two things that recently happened that made me wonder. I was behind a new solo driver as he was getting his CAT ticket and he stared at it for awhile, then turned to me and showed me the ticket. He asked if he was legal. He was, but man he should have known that.
The other was at Walmart and I saw a CR England trainer with her student do a classic high hook picking up their trailer and were going to leave like that. I went over and helped them fix it. Maybe it's just me, but this is basic stuff.
What exactly are they teaching trainees?

It's definitely information I need. So when I get out there I know what the heck I'm doing. I am thankful for all of you experts on here. Well experienced drivers. Not sure if all of you are experts LOL

Can't learn it all in CDL school. No one hit the road knowing everything.
All experienced drivers should give a helping hand like you are doing.Jenn72, Sirscrapntruckalot, CosmoK12 and 19 others Thank this. -

Saw a JB driver recently, trying to back up on a short, straight piece of road. When the trailer started to drift off to the side, she had NO idea how to steer and correct to stay in a straight line. She kept pulling ahead to straighten out and try again, hoping by luck trailer would stay inline behind as she backed up. After watching for a few minutes and several attempts(it was painful to watch), I couldn't stand it anymore and offered to help. At first she ignored me, thinking I was screwing with her, or maybe it was pride? After a couple more failed attempts, she let me help her...
How do these people get their license? When I took the test, we had to do the three backing maneuvers successfully. Parallel park blind side, back into a 90° turn "dock " and back in straight line. If any maneuver wasn't successful within three pullups, we failed.Last edited: Aug 9, 2020
