Any of you guys do any exhaust work on cars and such? Decided I'm going to pull the muffler on my pickup. Just curious how long of pipe I can run between the hangers? The muffler has the hanger brackets welded to both ends of it. Thinking I can cut 1 hanger bracket off and weld it to the new piece of pipe. What are modern, factory exhaust systems made of? Just normal steel?

Most OE exhausts are stainless these days. If you replace with auto parts aluminized steel, it just won't last. I figured about a 3 year life on that stuff here in the rust belt.
That said, deleting a muffler takes a lot of weight off. As long as you still have front and rear hangers, getting rid of one or even both of the muffler hangers is possible. Better yet, is just to buy a cat back stainless kit from Borla, Corsa, Banks, whichever is available for your model.cke, PoleCrusher, 650cat425 and 3 others Thank this. -
Mine's definitely not stainless. Its rusty.
Corsa is pretty spendy. $1800 for the last one I bought. Sounds better than anything else though.cke, PoleCrusher, 650cat425 and 3 others Thank this. -

If anything is going to make a whistle on my truck, it'll be a set of twins

Anyone here familiar with INTRAXX suspensions? The torque align pivot bolts are "one time use" shear style now. I'm thinking this was the solution to lazy techs that either under or over tightened with a impact rather than using a torque wrench?
Reason I bring it up, is I loosened mine to align my leading axle before I read the procedures or realized that the inside was a button head/shear install lol. Any logical reason why re-torquing it to specs of 550' wouldn't be ok?cke, PoleCrusher, 650cat425 and 4 others Thank this. -
In the mean time while I’m waiting to do my cut off project. Once this current round of acceptable rates If over, I’m going to build a cabinet / wall unit for my sleeper.

Just use it. I reused “one time use” head bolts on a cheap gasoline, turbo build one time. Still running 10 years later of nothing but abuse from the guy that bought it from me.
I think one time use bolts are a scam.Last edited: Aug 9, 2020

I look forward to seeing this project, but I hope it's a long time before this round of acceptable rates is over. I need to play catch up for sitting on my ### so much since March.cke, PoleCrusher, 650cat425 and 3 others Thank this.
