So much for your no brainer.

I have worked for companies that felt the result of hitting an animal was also classified as preventable and driver fault.

LMAO #### cattle anyway. reminds me of a time me and my dad was up in montana heading over the mts. and we come up on a rest area and seen an ole boy sittin on the top of his truck. A few hundred yards away was a moose. we asked him what the hell he was doing. He proceeded to tell us he was just sittin in the rest area and seen the moose walk about 15 ft in front of the truck when he decided to turn his runnin lights on and hit the airhorn. WRONG THING TO DO. he said that moose looked straight at him, lowered his head and proceeded to ram the hell out of the front of his truck. Tore the #### trucks front end up pretty good. scared the hell out of the driver so bad he crawled out the window and on top of the truck and wasnt getting down till the moose left. It took dad about 20 mins to get him talked down and convinced everything was ok at that point. But his grill, and bumper, was all beat to crap. left headlight taken completely off, left fender all smashed back into steer tire. It had to be the funniest freakin thing i have ever seen. Wish i could have been there

That's messed up. When I worked in towing I got to talk to a lot of insurance adjusters. Their advice was always to hit the deer rather than wreck avoiding it. They said if you're probably going to wreck the vehicle anyway it's better to have proof the deer was there.

Trucking is just rigged against us in every possible way.

    HORSE HOCKEY!

You have to do everything you can to preserve HUMAN LIFE! I stress this point very hard to my students. If you see an animal in the road, HIT IT! Both hands on the wheel, foot off the fuel, HIT IT! We read way to many times in this forum about drivers who steer to avoid an animal and end with disastrous results. Granted, after hitting the cattle, the truck ended up destroying a bunch of guardrail and blocking several lanes, BUT No Human Lives were Lost!

Glad you are OK man. You did the right thing. Don't let anyone tell you that you didn't!

My point is that the company considers if you swerve to miss the animal and wreck it is classed preventable.

The other point is that they also feel hitting the animal and getting damages is preventable as well.

Makes it a Catch 22 situation.

Had an elderly friend of mine years ago that hit a bull in his Bonneville...not fun.

So I guess the "not fun" factor ratio is 10:1 when comparing a tractor-trailer to a '69 Bonneville.

Another one of the mysterious physics laws conquered.

And I'm glad you weren't hurt...a deer is one thing, but even one cow...I hate to think of it!
