I am an owner operator and have a question for the experienced owners
Was looking into trailer rental and one of their terms was for every 1/32nd on the tires they charge 30$ per tire
do any of you ever measured miles per 1/32 tread?
Cuz i dont really know if i should get the deal or not? Any advice is welcomed

I do not have an answer on your question, but I do want to say that equals $900 per tire if you take new tires down to 2/32. So they are making out like a bandit. Is this perhaps to help cover all the repairs to the trailer too? Like maybe they figured out it costs $30 per 32nd to "maintain" the trailer?

I have never heard of that, sounds like a ripoff. Rentals tend to have a flat fee plus mileage, and all maintenance is included. You are responsible flats and only would be responsible for a tire if you ran it flat and destroyed it or destroyed a tired by hitting a curb. There is really no way to measure what you are asking. There are numerous variables that effect tire wear.KostaN Thanks this.

Yea im aware of a lot of possibilities affecting the wear and I never heard of charges like those either,but I was curious if anybody had that experience...thank u anyways

That's right, and I want to add another variable: "corruption". All they need to do is press lightly on the gauge when you rent it, and then push hard on the gauge when you return it. That right there could be a solid 32nd, which would equate to an additional $240.
You do what's best for you, and maybe it's not as nefarious as it sounds. But it's sure best to be armed with as much info as possible! -
I have no clue but i have read the terms saying anything below 2/32 brand new tire...
Thats why i was very curious what would be approximate mileage for 1/32 in normal conditions but I guess it’s impossible to say. They even have for every 1/32 on the brakes 10$ each

That's because you start getting citations after that, not to mention blowouts.
Brakes are cheap, and even if you pay someone to change them, it isn't labor intensive. I would either say their brake policy is a complete crock, or they have it in place to keep people from using the "company brakes". -
Call around because not everyone has the same rental.
If this is a long term rental. Ask them to agree to you returning them with 100%tread. Most will. Then go get the cheapest caps you can find and put them on. Keep the good tires for yourself or sell them.

I would call around because rental should be a flat fee. All included. A lease can be written with or without maintenance and buy out terms.

Ive seen maintance (not included and included) but regular wear and tear is ok and acceptable
And some of them required if putting a new tire,same make and model
