"Drops" measure the length of tarp that covers the sides. So if u have an 8ft drop . The tarp is gonna be 24 ft wide. 8ft of material for left side , 8ft for right side and 8 ft for middle. So if u have a 8ft drop that means u can tarp freight that is 8ft high. Thats why it comes in handy to carry 4fters or 6fters . So if u got something 3ft high on the deck u could cover it with the 4ft drop instead of the 8 and save alot of frustration and save ur back as well.

Sometimes u could cheat a little bit. If u got 5ft tall worth of freight on ur deck but its narrow . Ur gonna gain more material since it is not spanning 8ft across the deck. Say its only 2ft wide and 5ft tall. Thats 3 extra ft on each side that u gain. So ur 4fters should cover it , in theory

If that hay was 13.6 high. Deck is about 5 off the ground, that leaves atleast 8ft worth of hay. 2ft exposed would be 6ft drop tarps

Your going to tarp lots of loads for nothing!!! Better get used to it? It’s all part of flatbeding.
