I'm a native Texan, but I started working the patch in Colorado, Wyoming, and NoDakabout 8 years ago. I've driven some nasty roads, and usually the worst were flat roads with the wind trying to have your arse outrunning your rig.

Packed snow isnt to bad to drive on until it has glazed over with ice... Then its a night mare waiting to happen.

Early and late winter are the worst. Get a few inches of snow that gets packed down... Then a warm day comes along and just melts the top of the packed snow to make it moist... Then darkness brings sub-zero temps and that thin layer of moisture becomes polished ice over packed snow... Then it slightly thaws by mid day.... Thin layer of water over ice over packed snow....That #### can be deadly, almost as bad as freezing rain.

We're having the rest of the bacon before the orb rises, in preparation for another day of epic mesquite tree battle.

If snow is like mudding. Then I've got a good amount of experience already. Grew up mudding in the woods here in Florida. So that does help with me understanding it better.

    WesternPlains and LoSt_AgAiN Thank this.

Mud and snow are NOT the same! Mud exists when it is warm. Winter can be so cold you cant feel the ends of your fingers. Winter means wearing numerous layers of clothing so you dont freeze to death from exposure. Winter means if you wear glasses, stepping out of the nice warm truck and your glasses instantly fog up. Winter means stepping out of the truck that the air is so cold it takes your breath away (you wont know it until you do it). In winter if your hand is wet from sweaty palms? Will adhere your hand to something metal because of the moisture instantly freezing.
