They came in and started building houses along the coast, or buying houses in fishing villages to turn into their beach house, places they would only occupy a couple months out of the year. They didn't like the sight of the "ugly" fishing and shrimp boats, so they got environmental regulations passed, a lot of times by suing from what I've been told, claiming that the waters were being over fished and other things.
Eventually only the big corporate fishing outfits could afford to operate with all the new permits and taxes, and seeing the opening, came in and drove out the small locals. Then those big time boats really did over fish, then left once the big hauls stopped coming.
Basically they devastated the local economy and ecosystem, cause they wanted a pretty view from their vacation house.
I didn't really know anybody, except family. That all happened when I was just a kid. -

Long haired mini dachshund, they call him "dapple" nothing but love from him. Doesn't shed as much as he looks like he would.

Really do make a good truck dog. This guy would come everywhere if he could. Potty training wasn't an issue either but he did grow up alongside our 100lb Doberman to show him the ropes.
