    Boog,

Thanks alot for the information. My back injury was not that severe at all. It was just a subluxation , and since I continued to drive for 3 weeks after I popped my back, it caused a bit of soft tissue damage and I had to get off the road for a few months and have my back manipulated by a chiropracter 4 times a week. Looking back at it, I think my chiropracter was manipulating more than my back, since I was on Workers' Comp. That injury and experience ended my days with Schneider, and has made me ineligible for re-hire with them, not that I'd want to go back there anyway. It got a little nasty between my chiropracter and the Schneider docs, and I listened to my doc, and oh well.
I won't have any problems lifting and all that, I am still in decent shape, and can still swing a golf club pretty well, which I won't be doing very much of anymore I know.

Well, I pointed out my experience in detail to Delirious because I know when I want info I want it to be specific. I don't know about his back issues or your arm issue as far as what Stevens will require of you. I'm not a doctor, but I wanted Delirious to know what I went through. I think anybody like us that has had past structural surgery should definitely call the clinic prior to arrival and get their input. People list previous surgeries and injuries on their applications everyday, and your recruiter obviously sees this. When he/she gives you approval to come to school, they are giving a "general" approval. Since you haven't seen their doc or had the physical yet, you really have no idea if it's required or not. But to be honest, they are not concerned about any delay you might have for medical reasons. Their job is to put butts in seats. The rest is up to somebody else. Since they aren't doctors either, they take these issues to the safety director and he says yeah or nay. You might get a yeah from him, only to get a nay from the doc. But generally, they approve people that they know are "probably" ok, even if more information is required in cases like mine. Now, they will not tell you any of this, you'll have to ask the right people. The recruiters, all lovely ladies, have a job to do and they do it well. But your recruiter has no idea if you will get put on med hold or not. Since, in my case anyway, the delay caused a great financial hardship for my family, I think it's important for other prospective students to know this. Like my previous advice to Delirious, I'll say the same to you-have all your medical releases in hand when you arrive. Call the doc/clinic ahead of time and get their opinion. If they think you will need the FCE, going just a day or two ahead of schedule could save you weeks if you get put on hold. I speak from personal experience.

I heard tale of one guy who went there who'd broken his arm as a 10 year old. He was put on medical hold because he didn't have any medical release with him (and why would he-it was 30 years ago!). My point is that just because you are healthy and strong now (as I am) doesn't mean they won't require a release to cover their rear ends in case you get hurt down the road. There's nothing a company (especially a trucking company) hates more than a workman's compensation claim. Especially when the company is self-insured for workman's comp like Stevens is.

No, I'm not going to see them this time around. I've seen 'em a bunch though, so its all good.

On your "medical records".....is the doctor that operated on your arm still alive and practicing? Because if he is, I would tell him you're going to work in the trucking industry and you need a medical release (as ridiculous as it sounds). It might save you some heartache...

I didn't stay at the hotel, but I can tell you I wouldn't go to a concert (especially a Widespread concert LOL) during training. Remember, you are probably going to be drug tested randomly a second time before you graduate. There will be so much dope at an outdoor Widespread concert in Dallas it'll be like watching the band through a fogbank! LOL. I doubt I'd risk the second hand exposure. I think you can come and go as you please in your off hours, which aren't many. But you would have to pay for a cab to the venue, which I'd say is about 10 miles max. Also, you will sign your name that you understand that there is NO ALCOHOL in your off hours or hotel rooms. If they find it, you're gone. They even have the maids call and tell them if they find beer cans or bottles in your room. So even if you go, you can't drink. And speaking of having an adult beverage, Stevens has no tolerance-ever. You will sign a document that says you understand you will NEVER consume an alcoholic beverage anywhere other than your personal residence for as long as you work for them. If they find out otherwise, you are terminated.

Now, you and I both know in the real world people are going to do what they want to do, and there is probably no way they can police this as long as a person doesn't drink and drive. I still haven't figured out how they get away with this one (not that I care, I rarely drink)...

If you really want to see the band, it's not far, but it is in a tough neighborhood. The venue is an outdoor amphitheater located at Fair Park (where the State Fair of Texas is).
