Well the heading saids it, and I'm sure it's been asked 100 times.
Witch is better when cost is not a determining factor? Where are my more likely to get one-on-one training on the road? I don't learn from staring at other people driving a #### truck. Do all schools offer training on a manual truck? I'm not a spring chicken, almost 50. I know how to kick a clutch and flat shift. More or less asking where I will get the best training with the best employment possibilities at the end without cost being a big issue.

Wilson Logistics trains on a 10 speed, but you get an automatic as your assigned truck.
    !+~
Private school and you have more choices of companies to choose from.
Make sure the school is at least 160 hours.
Community College or Tech Schools are excellent choices and give you even more choices.

I went to school over 12 years ago and I paid $2900 for my CDL, took 4 weeks but then I signed on with Werner and I had to spend an additional 2 months out with a trainer. I do know that if you go to a company paid CDL course then you will have to sign a contract for like a year of employment with them. I think it is way better to go to a private school than it is company paid school. Sadly most trucks today are automatic especially in the big fleets. You get a manual from time to time.

So I'm here at CRST/nadta going into my third week in cedar rapids Iowa. Passed pti on the first try, passed backing on the second try
. However I've failed the road for the second time this morning. The first time I was failed railroad crossings as well as the highway exit. I came to almost a complete stop at the railroad crossing when I should've simply rolled the windows down, look in each direction and proceed 5-10 under the speed limit. Only stop if hauling hazardous materials. The highway exit at the end of it I stopped when the other vehicles actually stop and I have right of way. When lane changing I turned the indicator off too soon a couple times before the entire vehicle was in the new lane. The second time I failed today because of an intersection where the light changed as I approached it. I went to own the intersection and second guessed myself when a vehicle in the opposite direction of traffic tried to a left turn into where I was making my right, I stopped the vehicle to let them through when I shouldve proceeded. Any pointers would be greatly appreciated

I am glad I went the route of going to a private school. I have no contract and the company I work for is paying back my tuition. You could find that the company you go to school with puts you low on the list for miles,, or you don't get along with them.. its a hard life working for a company you hate,, but owe money to.. The length of time you're in training on a truck depends on the company. I know I chose a longer training period.

You pay (or your current employer if they have a tuition assistance program) is far better then company paid. Company paid will require you to be in contract with them to work for X months/years to 'pay off' the cost of the school. And if you quit or are fired, they will want you to pay back whatever is still 'owed'.
