If you are on metformin you will only get a one year card. As long as your A1C is under 10. If your blood suger is around 120 on a regular basis your A1C is probably in the 7-8 range so you will be fine.

I am also on metformin. What I usually do is go to my doc before my DOT physical and get an A1C test done and take it with me. That way you can show it is under control.

Like grandpa always said, "with all I've read about health issues lately, I've finally decided to do something about it. I'm going to stop reading",,,and he lived to be 96, ,,go figure.

I did a two day fast before my test on Friday and my ketones were very high, the nurse noted this,(2 day fast) on the paperwork after I passed my blood pressure test, good thing I made some conversation or the Dr. might have questioned the ketone reading. Sugar was a negative in the urine strip.

Most detailed urine readings I've ever got after the DOT physical.

I love fasting ... seems to cure a plethora of health issues. I ALWAYS feel better the following day from a 24/48 fast. I’ve never had any diabetes problems but I’ve been battling weight / blood pressure for a while now. Weight loss through fasting has got me back to a 2 year dot card. Give fasting a try I bet you would like it.

I always fast for 24 hours before dot physical. Never had anyone mention keystones to me during it. I also like fasting, my best was 5 days.

Just checked my blood sugar again....down to 101. I'm anticipating it to spike tomorrow morning as usual.

I'm on and off Keto throughout the year. I normally do about 9 month rounds. I find it a little difficult to maintain their meal frequency with the work schedule along with a 16/8 fasting schedule.

I've found it a bit easier for me to cook numerous meals at one time every few days and keep as much frozen meat and veggies as possible. Then of course there are always a few salad variety mainly from the pilot/flying J that I use. Because it seems keeping fresh spinach and kale is impractical.
