You're asking the same question about a million other newbies ask.

You're a month into running a truck. You're a liability to any company whether you have your own equipment or not.

Ive asked you this before and I'll ask again. Do you have any idea how much it costs to operate a truck & trailer? Do you know how much your base plates and just the insurance is?

How about little things like trip planning? Not having someone tell you where to fuel. Knowing exactly how many hours its gonna take you to get loaded, then haul the load, and what time you are gonna arrive at your destination?

There's a million things to know and while no one knows everything in this game, the only thing that helps you learn is time and experience. Unless you're sitting on a big pile of $ that you can cover all operating expenses for atleast 6mo while trying to figure out everything as you run, then you wont make it.

Oh and hotshot is bull ####. Ask me how I know.

Screw a flap wheel, bust out a griding disk to get the heavy rust off, then clean with a flap disk.

That’s southeast Louisiana, I live in central Louisiana an hour south of Alexandria, highway 165 runs right through my little town and comes in handy when I’m delivering in Louisiana and gotta find a place to park for the night lol just spend the night at my house and hit the road the next morning

Ha and I was appreciative of the answer, I’m nowhere near ready to take either course, was just wondering which one is better. What’s wrong with hotshotting, then?

if you're planning on being in trucking more than 5 years owning is more profitable. If you're not company is more profitable

I'll bite.. How do you know.?

Ain't nothing wrong with running a hotshot. Gets a bad rap because lots of them are rate cutters, & inexperienced. Plenty of people are profitable with one..

It's a struggle on the spot market. Gotta find a niche. I started in 2013 with a one ton dodge pulling boats out of FL, & some campers & utility trailers for back hauls..
Saved enough to buy a brand new 40' gooseneck cash. Ran that 4 yrs till Dec. '17.
Bought ol Buck, cash. Pulled the gooseneck with Buck 1.5yrs.
Oct '19 Bought my new Doonan stepdeck, cash..

You can make it work. Good timing, attitude, a little luck & not being a complete moron goes a long way.. I'm probably the only guy that drives a truck & gets tipped.. I've been tipped 5 times, 3 of them $100, one $50, one $20. Be polite, but stand your ground goes a good ways in this business..
