I went through the Stevens training years ago, very comprehensive in very good equipment and have a neighbor that went through the Central training. I agree that Stevens is longer but they cover more aspects of the job. Don't get me wrong, after training Stevens sucks on pay and long term prospects but i did my year to pay for the training and moved on.

At the actual school the central school will not teach you much of anything, just how to pass your CDL test.
After you do that and you go to a trainer you will learn about the job and how to do your job. A trainer will make or break you. I had to teach many drivers about there trucks, logs, paperwork, proper communication ect, while at terminals here and there waiting on maintance ect.
A good trainer will teach you what the company needs from you, and will teach you how to survive on the road and make money.
A poor trainer will use you for miles, and not teach much of anything. They will do most qualcom posts, paperwork, ect, and not teach you how to use them all. A poor trainer will not let you back the truck as much as you should. They will not teach you how to route plan and check the route the company gave you. There are so many things a trainer needs to teach it would take a month to go over it all, and that is the point.
They want you learning this by doing it. If you are a book learner you will have a hard time with at trainer, because allot of it cannot be tought in a book well. You would never know what they were talking about.

Darn, I did it again, another rambling wall of text lol. Sorry.
Eather company will teach you what you need to learn, if you have a good trainer.
One thing that Stevens teaches well that I wish Central would is a method of Jack backing. It will put you exactly in a hole every time when you learn it well. Even when space is an issue. I asked a Stevens trainer about it one night and it really helped me.
It is a very easy method to use in tight places.
Plus Stevens uses T2000s, and many people like them.

Miles between the companys can be anyones guess. I have seen it go both ways. So it is your call.

Thanks everyone for your feedback. I can see that there are good points with Central OR Stevens! So I guess the question is, which one am I willing to put with for the next 2 years?? And during those 2 years, is there REALLY a light at the end of the tunnel?

Stevens has great training, if you don't get a jerk trainer. The worst part of my training was living on the $350 a week. Pay two to three months of your bills in advance before you start. I can't tell you anything about Central

Thought I'd bump this back up so possibly there are new facts or experiences to report on. Wondering Craig-N-Nem which company you went with and how are things going? I see that you haven't posted much after this one.

I have been doing loads of research on choosing a good training company. My results have found there seems to be the least number of negative reports on Central. I just want a chance with a good company and I would like to have some company who is honest and fair. The job itself has many negative things I don't want some company who adds this negative experience.
