Plenty of regional jobs where your out 7 to 10 days then home for a reset.

dedicated carriers, LTL companies, food deliveries, beer deliveries, and many more, you are home daily (or nightly) most if not all weekends off, and many if not most holidays off.

 

Its completely normal. Running otr takes its toll on you. You constantly miss family gatherings, birthdays ect... the list goes on.... OTR is a lifestyle, not just a job. Sometimes you need to change your lifestyle. Good luck with what ever you decide to do

 

I think OTR is "easier" if you run all the time versus trying to "stop and start" by taking hometime. The only reason I am writing this is because I am taking time off for the first time in like 5 months and my next load will get me back to the terminal in a few days (I delivered early this morning). The planners don't work weekends here so I'll probably sit until like 10 am tomorrow. Whereas if I was running everyday like usual they would have kept me running.

 

I never quite understood the desire be an OTR driver. They say you get to see the country, but you are still stuck in the truck racking up around 70 hours a week. I just don't see how that can be a good life. I've never done it, but it seems like a horrible life. I like around 45 to 50 hours a week and sleeping at home every night.
