I recently purchased a 2500 gallon septic pump truck. I am a septic installer.

The truck did not come with a vacuum pump. The PO removed it.

I need guidance understanding a vacuum pump setup for the truck. The previous pump was driven by PTO.

Any advice or direction you could give me would be welcomed.

    Thank you for your help.

Ok, your shaft on the pro would go to a angle drive box which would be mounted on the rear of the pump platform. From the angle drive to the pump you would need a drive element and coupling. I prefer to use tb woods brand j8 coupling. Than you would need a pump in the 200-250 cfm range, which a massport hxl 75 would work perfectly. Now the pump will have 2 ports on it, one would be vacuum side and one exhaust. Obviously there is the exhaust box to the right side of the pump mount. Your vacuum sode would go up to the top secondary check which is the long cylinder above the pump mount. From that secondary check, there will be another hose up to the primary check which is in that top man way cover.

Make sure both checks have cages and balls inside the cage cua that is what will cut the vaccum off if you over fill the truck. Make sure you replace vaccum and pressure reliefs, and don't run the truck with out them. You will suck that tank in in no time

    baha Thanks this.

Thank you for your help. I have a couple questions.

    You said:
So that secondary check, the long white tube, would actually fill up with liquid (septage) and raise the stainless steel ball inside to stop the vacuum?

And, there should be another stainless steel ball in a cage as a cutoff below where the hose attaches to the top of the tank?

So this is the exhaust box? Does this "catch" anything or is it purely for sound deadening?

I know a bit about these. Sorry no pictures as my data stuff is all messed up.
That empty bracket off the frame with a three inch hose close to it is set up for a compressor. Most everyone calls them pumps but there are actually a vein air compressor. All they pump is air. Jurop and Blackmears are common.
I have seen them PTO belt driven, hydraulic and PTO with a 90 degree gear box. Never personally installed one with that 90 degree gear box.
A lot of that stuff comes from Chandler in Arkansas. They probably would not sell to you but might get some advice and direction to a distributor.
    Yes

We use a couple different ones. One is a square store bought box with what looks like wiffle balls in it. Perfume stuff is poured in them to keep the skank down.
Another is a 3 inch turbo muffler. They have a a 3/4 inch nipple welded in the bottom of them with a ball valve attached. They catch the oil from the pump and other muck. It can be drained off at the proper place.
When you are pressurizing the tank it also works a little bit like an oil bath air cleaner as air is pulled back through it.

Thank you for your help. I have more questions:

Are you using two mufflers (one after the other) on each truck?
    OR
Are you talking about two different mufflers on two different trucks?

Is this what the handle is for on the pump? Turn it one way and the pump forces air into the tank...for emptying?

Turn the handle the other way and the pump draws air out of the tank for vacuum?

Pushing off, pulling on. Pressurize the tank to push off or empty it. Put vacuum in the tank to pull on or fill the tank. You know what way the pump is going by feeling the exhaust of the pumps muffler. If its blowing air and loud your pulling or filling. If it is sucking air into the exhaust you're pushing off or emptying the tank. It's very self explanatory after you wrap your head around it. Just don't overfill it or you'll have a line full of crap!
