Need some good advice....

Not sure where you are located and what permitting options would be or possible blanket exceptions, but in my neck of the woods that move would never be possible legally anyways. On the other hand if legality isn't an issue as far as deck space I would look at either a landoll "expensive" or a 53' step deck with ramps.

 

Depending on how good you are at tetris you can quite certainly find a boom/blade position and orientation that minimizes your overall length. Regardless of that, as previously stated, you will be over 80k gross no matter what kind of trailer you can find. I don't know the state laws for permitting wherever you're located, but I'm not sure that you'll be allowed to permit for the weight with a divisible load such as that.

 

I don’t see how you are going to be able to haul them both. Together that’s 57,000. You can’t permit weight for multiple pieces in most places. And you’ll never find a truck and trailer that’s 23,000 that is capable of what you want. I say look for a landoll trailer.

 

Stepdeck and ramps gets old really quick. We have a handful of places that we deliver too. Idk maybe I’m just the lucky guy that always has to get his ramps out. Landoll is probably your best bet.

 

I did not mean a step deck with ramps that you need to manhandle each time. We run a large fleet of 53' Dorseys with a built in beaver tail and ramps. They are spring assist you can lift with one hand.

 

A step deck will be fine for the 170. If you go with a larger machine later on I wouldn’t suggest a step deck. The outer rail and cross members are not that big. And steps are bad about cracking at the drop if they are loaded heavy all the time.

You can get them built however you want, so my statement is a generalization. 90% of what you will find is just a run of the mill step deck.

 

Yes a landoll is more expensive and heavier, but are way more versatile if you are moving smaller pieces of equipment.
