Greyhound Drivers........

ah. ok. i just think of you guys as fellow driver's making a living out on the road. i drive a blue international prostar with a tanker, up and down
I15 from vegas to cali. i always flash you guys the lights and always get them back! you guys are ok in my book!

 

I'm new here and hope not to step on any toes or offend anybody. When I see a greyhound, I recall the strike of 1990. Even today, after all these years. I wont post a link, but you can google it,

That will make for an interesting read if you don't recall or if it was before your time. Those where some ugly times and no union member had anything positive to say about the replacements. I'll just leave it at that. Drive safely all,,,,

 

WOW, thats a shocker..........the union guys didnt have anything nice to say about their replacements! LOL

 

Well I'm back from greyhound school and now we are doing more training at the philly terminal. Yes 3 more weeks training. Now we are learning the routes, and there are alot of them. They are now giving us 80 bucks a day on a cash card for the next 3 weeks. Some of us would have our driving time complete and be able to start driving in a couple weeks. The pay is pretty good, they start u off at 17hr and u get pay for other things like waiting for an assignment and extra stop. first year i should make between 40-50 thousand. not bad

 

From what I saw of Greyhound during my trips to and from the nearest company terminal, they've GOT to be union.

Drivers seem to be prevented from doing anything once they get to a terminal. And the porters,,, well they seem to be paid just for showing up. They seem to meander around alot with a broom and a dust bin but never actually do anything.

Funny thing was once (IIRC it was South Carolina) they loaded a bunch of us onto a bus and 40 minutes later the station manager came onto the bus wondering why it was still there. (apparently they never called up a driver) but why do you suppose a station manager would look for a missing driver ON THE COACH? I guess he figured he was stowed in an overhead compartment?

 

I'm trying to get on with Greyhound station here in Knoxville. Hopefully something will work out soon. I've been driving Class A for 4 years, no tickets, no accidents. My license is as clean as it can be as far as that goes.

I've also rode the greydog all over the country and don't mind it. Sure there are some serious wack jobs riding, but it isn't half as bad as people let on. For the record, I've met lots of wack job truck drivers while waiting to check in at a customer or while fueling at Pilot. You get to sleep while someone else drives, get to meet some interesting people and see the country in a different way than truck driving. I kind of like it. My brother and I are going to take about 2 weeks someday and ride across the country and back and up and down just for fun on Greyhounds. Ride a couple days, take a couple days off in one city or another.

If any of you Greyhound drivers have advice on how to get hired or what to expect from them if I do get hired I would appreciate it!

 

So I'm going to school for greyhound on nov2 and I was wondering if anybody here had any prior experience working for them.I know it's a class A forum but I figured I'd give it a shot.The main part of the job I'm trying to grasp is whether or not I'll get enough hours to make it meaningful being on call 24/7 as that is what they ask.Any help would be appreciated thanks
